Is Online Sports Betting Legal In Missouri? - State And Federal Laws To Contend With

This is where things get a little bit more challenging. Individual states do have the freedom to regulate or ban various forms of gambling entertainment (including online betting) within their jurisdiction at their own discretion.

Sports

The Federal Wire Act is a law criminalizes online sports betting across state lines. Currently, Missouri has a sports betting bill that is awaiting approval from state legislatures. It is likely to pass but until it does, only offshore online sports betting is considered legal.

Missouri residents can legally place sports bets online at legitimate offshore sportsbooks without violating any state or federal laws. We have included a list of the industry’s top online sportsbooks. Each of them has been carefully vetted by us and has been evaluated to ensure that they are indeed licensed, certified and regulated by a legitimate governing jurisdiction and that they offer betting lines, odds and wagering options that are comparable with the Vegas bookmakers. Daily Fantasy Sports Contests in Missouri

Missouri has legalized daily fantasy sports contests through House Bill 1941. The bill imposes regulatory requirements that benefit the state and its residents. Many sports fans and industry professionals find this to be controversial with how closely related DFS and sports betting actually are. However, DFS escapes coming under federal sports betting laws due to its non-gambling classification, regardless of how controversial that classification is. DFS is a sports-related betting opportunity that is regulated by the state, however, it is not able to offer the range of lines and sports coverage that an offshore online sportsbook can. If you want traditional sportsbook gambling but are settling for DFS, you may want to check out our list of recommended and legally licensed offshore sportsbooks.

History of the Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs played their first season of professional football in 1960 and were found by businessman Lamar Hunt, who was instrumental in merging the AFL and NFL to create the National Football League. Through the 2019 season, the franchise earned 11 division titles, made 21 playoff appearances, and won their first Super Bowl appearance with a 23-7 win over the Vikings in Super Bowl IV in 1970. Today, the Chiefs compete in the AFC West, play home games at Arrowhead Stadium, and are coached by Andy Reid, who led KC to their second-ever Super Bowl victory in 2020, beating the San Francisco 49ers by a score of 31-20.

Betting on the 2020-2021 Kansas City Chiefs

In 2020, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes made the leap from regular season MVP (2018) to Super Bowl MVP after leading Kansas City to a comeback win against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL title game. The Chiefs, down 20-10 late, scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to win Super Bowl LIV 31-20, and the team is easily the favorite to win it all again in 2021.

Right now, before the start of the 2020 NFL season, the defending champion Chiefs have the best odds to win the 2021 Super Bowl, with their vanquished SF foes trending just behind them. At most USA sports betting sites, Kansas City is getting between +400 and +500 odds to win SB LV, with the 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens jockeying for second place.

Betting On The 2019 Missouri Tigers

Gambling

Mizzou went 6-6 in 2019, but after a relatively innocuous tutoring scandal broke late in the year, the team was banned from postseason play. However, the ban only lasted one season, and the Missouri Tigers football team is once again bowl eligible for 2020.

With new head coach Eli Drinkwitz, the team's immediate future is something of a question mark, though they are unexpected to compete for much in the SEC and will likely be happy just to make it back to a bowl game in 2020. For bettors, these Tigers (as opposed to those of the Clemson variety) are an extreme long shot to win it all.

Is online sports betting legal in Missouri?

In order to answer this question, one must lay a little ground work. It is currently illegal to own or operate any type of sports betting business within the state of Missouri. The PASPA and Federal Wire Act both outlaw sports betting both online and offline within the US, with the exception of a few destinations that were grandfathered in as exempt from PASPA. Missouri is not among these fortunate states. Based on this, one must answer that online sports betting operations are not legal in Missouri. However, there are no state or federal laws which prohibit Missouri residents from participating in sports betting at legally licensed and certified sportsbooks which are located and regulated outside of the United States. Offshore sports betting sites that are located within a jurisdiction that has expressly legalized sports betting for their residents is licensed to provide their services to bettors around the world, including those located in Missouri. So from a participant point of view, yes, online sports betting is legal for Missouri residents as long as they restrict their wagering action to those destinations legally licensed to provide their services. You can review the state's laws concerning gambling on the Missouri State Legislature website.

What is the legal gambling age in Missouri?

The gambling laws for the state of Missouri dictate that 21 years of age is the minimum legal gambling age for the state's residents and visitors. Sports bettors who notice that many of the sites we recommend have a minimum age of 18 should first and foremost follow the laws governing gambling for the state of Missouri. While state law does not specifically address online sports betting, it is assumed that the legal gambling age in MO spans all gambling venues available, both state based and offshore options. There are consequences for engaging in underage gambling, and while they may not be extreme, they are definitely something you want to deal with.

Finding legal online sportsbooks accepting Missouri residents

Sites which have been vetted and improved by sports betting analysts will provide access to safe and reliable options for betting on sports. These brands will be legally licensed, compliance certified, and subject to strict regulatory oversight from a well known and respected governing body. Confirmation of legitimacy within the industry is the first phase of our intense review process, and ends up eliminating a handful of brands from consideration in this guide. All approved brands will also have been verified to provide competitive betting lines and paylines, a secure and efficient banking suite, and a wealth of wagering options and features, such as live betting and player teams and props. Bypassing the recommendations of professionals can put you at risk for landing at undesirable, rogue or simply low quality gambling destinations at which you are vulnerable to a number of cyber crimes, including identity theft and fraud.

Popular Sports Teams in Missouri and Their Trends

Missouri Sports Betting 2021

The Missouri Tigers

Gambling

If you live in Missouri, let us start out by apologizing for the lack of full-term coverage here. As you can see, we're not covering the St. Louis Cardinals or the streaking Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball, nor are we touching on the St. Louis Blues of the NHL. The idea here is to speak to the most popular teams in Missouri in a gambler's context, and the only Missouri teams that make the grade here are football teams. And it all starts with the Missouri Tigers out of Colombia.

Don't think for a second that the Tigers get to play cream-puff teams. They're located in the SEC East, alongside the Georgia Bulldogs, South Carolina Gamecocks, Florida Gators, and other tough-as-nails teams. They were 10-3 last season in the regular season, and won their bowl game, the Citrus Bowl, against the Golden Gophers. Their body of work made them a good team for gamblers last season.

All told ATS (against the spread), the Tigers were 9-5. That's not too shabby. They went on a tear after a loss, going 3-0, and as the away underdog they covered at a rate of 4-0. Expect much of the same this year. They're the top team in the SEC East, with only Georgia to challenge them this season, and they're liable to easily cover any time they're underdogs. It's when they're favorites that the Tigers typically fall short.

The Kansas City Chiefs

With Alex Smith as QB and Andy Reid as their coach, the Chiefs shocked the world two season ago by having a record of 11-0, before losing to the Broncos. Last season, however, they actually failed to make the playoffs. But that doesn't mean they did bad in gambling categories. They were 10-6 ATS, and this was helped greatly by their beating of the two Super Bowl teams. Kansas City beat the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks, and pretty convincingly.

As the home team, they were 6-2 ATS, and were 4-2 as both home favorites and away underdogs. The Chiefs are showing some consistency as a football team, and that's often enough to get on a gambler's good side. They're far from a lock, but we predict their 62% ATS numbers to jump up to around 70%.

The Broncos are getting older, the Raiders are still bad, and the Chiefs' schedule is a lot easier this year than last year. They should be able to cover a few more games.

The St. Louis Rams

Online sports betting in missouri

Once called the Greatest Show on Turf, the St. Louis Rams are basically a bottom-rung team that people rely on as an upset special. What does this mean? It means that while the Rams might lose four in a row, they're that team you pick in anticipation that they'll cover against a heavy favorite like the Seahawks. And in this respect, the Rams don't disappoint.

Although they were only 7-9 ATS last season, they pumped things up in non-conference games as underdogs, going 3-1, and broke even as home underdogs.

They traded Sam Bradform for Nick Foles this year, a young, big-armed QB from the Eagles, and their running game has improved. Now, we don't expect that the Rams will be any better per their record, but we are going to predict that they will be better ATS. They will be more competitive this season and end up covering more bets.
